This competing factor involves the inclusion of a sound and/or ‘rumble’ feeling in the game controller – the latter is known in the business as a haptic effect. This sound and physical feeling changes according to whatever the gamer is doing within the game.
• At level 1, a simple click is emitted from the controller for certain key functions.
• At level 2, a beeping sound is added to the click for many gaming ‘moves’.
• At level 3, a simple ‘rumble’ effect is added which causes the controller to vibrate when key actions are taken.
• At level 4, three different rumble intensities are added depending on the level of success the gamer is having with the ‘move’ which triggers the rumble effect.
• Level 5 has the same haptic effect as level 4, as well as a range of 10 different sounds are triggered within the controller by actions within the game.
